James Byrd – Insurance Professional & Small Business Specialist

James Byrd brings decades of experience and deep community roots to his work in the insurance industry. He began his career in the food business in Memphis, Tennessee, where he developed a strong understanding of day-to-day operations and the challenges business owners face. That hands-on background continues to shape his practical, service-driven approach today.

In 1986, James entered the insurance industry with Protective Insurance, and in 1990 he became a Farmers Insurance Agent. Since then, he has built a trusted practice serving customers throughout Tipton County and the Memphis, Tennessee area. Having grown up in Covington, Tennessee, James is proud to serve the communities he knows so well.

James’s primary expertise is working with small businesses, with a particular focus on the convenience store industry. He understands the unique risks and operational needs of these businesses and works closely with owners to provide coverage that protects what they’ve worked hard to build.

Outside of his professional life, James is an active and highly respected member of the National Skeet Shooting Association. Known within the organization as “Jaybird,” he holds the distinguished honor of being inducted into the Referee’s Hall of Fame. James travels extensively across the United States as a referee, reflecting his commitment, discipline, and passion for the sport.
